The one week AI trial plan
Before you hire, give the job to AI for one week and see what's actually left.
Day 0: Write the job down
List every task you'd hand the new person. Be specific. "Answer emails" is too big; "reply to new customer questions" is right.
Days 1 to 7: Try each task with AI first
For every task, try it with AI and mark one column:
| Task | Done by AI | Half done (AI drafts, I fix) | Still needs a person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reply to new customer questions | |||
| Book jobs into the calendar | |||
| Send quotes | |||
| Chase unpaid invoices | |||
| Post on social media | |||
| Answer the phone | |||
| Order materials | |||
| [your task] |
Day 8: Read the result
- Done by AI: set these up properly so they run on their own.
- Half done: keep doing these with AI, it still saves time.
- Still needs a person: this is the real job description.
Then decide
- Short list? You may not need to hire at all.
- A few hours a week? Hire part time or a virtual assistant.
- Still a full list? Hire, and give them the AI tools from day one.
