Set a timer for 5 minutes. Go through each place below and count every customer message with no reply.

• Missed calls: open your call log. Any number you didn't call back?
• Voicemail: anything you never listened to?
• Instagram and Facebook DMs: check the Requests folder too. New customers often land there.
• Google Business Profile: open your profile in Google Maps and check messages and reviews.
• Website form: find the inbox your form sends to, and check spam.

Score yourself

• 0 unanswered: you're doing great. Keep checking weekly.
• 1 to 3: you're losing some jobs. Reply now, then set up an auto reply.
• 4 or more: this is costing you real money every week.

The fix

1. Reply to every message you found today, even old ones. A late "sorry, are you still looking?" still wins some back.
2. Turn on an auto reply everywhere that has one, so nobody waits in silence.
3. Set up a missed-call text back for your phone.
4. Put a 5 minute check on your calendar every Monday.
