Set up ChatGPT for your business: the checklist

Three things make ChatGPT answer like it works for you instead of guessing.

1. Make a Project

• In ChatGPT, click New project in the sidebar.
• Name it after your business.
• Start every business chat inside this Project, so your chats and files stay together.

2. Upload your real information

• Your price list (a simple document or spreadsheet is fine)
• Your FAQs: the questions people ask you most, with your answers
• Your service area, hours and policies (deposits, cancellations, warranty)
• 3 to 5 messages or emails you wrote that sound like you

3. Write the Project instructions

Open the Project settings and paste this, then fill it in:

You work for [Business Name], a [type of business] in [area].
Use only the prices and policies in the uploaded files. If a price or answer isn't in the files, say you'll check and ask for their name and number. Never make one up.
Write like the owner: [friendly / direct / formal], short sentences, plain words.
Our customers are usually [who they are].
When you write a message to a customer, end with one clear next step.

Test it

Ask the same customer question in a normal chat and inside the Project. The Project answer should use your real price and sound like you. If it doesn't, add the missing fact to your files.
